Light Scarfing
Light scarfing is applied to thin weld flashes on thin-wall pipes and small stainless steel tubes, featuring shallow cutting depth, low stock removal, mild vibration and less cutting heat. Its customizable edge hone radii cover 0.02 mm to 0.05 mm. These micro-sized hones maintain sharp cutting edges, lower friction and built-up edge, and deliver smooth finished surfaces. Only slight edge reinforcement is provided to avoid micro-chipping without increasing cutting resistance.
Heavy Scarfing
Heavy scarfing removes thick, bulky weld beads on heavy-wall structural pipes with large cutting depth, high feed rates and heavy intermittent impact from weld spatter, bringing severe vibration and concentrated thermal load. The customizable edge hone radii range from 0.06 mm to 0.20 mm. Larger rounded hones greatly enhance edge toughness, evenly disperse cutting force and heat, resist chipping and coating delamination, and prolong insert service life under aggressive machining conditions.
Additional Customizable Edge Preparations
Besides standard single round hone radii, we support tailor-made edge profiles for both machining scenarios. T-land composite hones and asymmetric hones are available for customization. Light scarfing matches narrow T-lands with tiny micro hones for superior finishing performance, while heavy scarfing adopts wide reinforced T-lands paired with large hone radii for maximum edge durability. All hone radii can be fine-tuned in 0.01 mm increments to match your workpiece material, pipe wall thickness and equipment running parameters.
